Why do we believe in site finished vs prefinished? 

There are many reasons why site finished floors are far superior to prefinished. A site finished floor allows you to get exactly what you want instead of settling for what a manufacturer makes in a factory. We can achieve just about any color desired and also achieve various textures such as handscraped or wire brushed. Prefinished floors do come with what appears to be a very good warranty anywhere from 25 year up to a lifetime warranty, but the devil is always in the details and the details are mostly things the average consumer wouldnt understand. For instance I'd say 99.9% of the warranties cover things like manufacturing defects things that aren't going to mean much of anything after the floor is installed. The warranty will also state it's specifically a no wear warranty.  The prefinished industry has gone to an aluminum oxide finish for their products. This finish is very abrasion resistant meaning it will never wear off but it is not scratch or dent resistant. The warranty does not cover scratches dings or dents. So after 10 or so years when the floor is scratched and beat up you are left with having to have them refinished. Refinishing of prefinished is substantially more expensive because air borne aluminum oxide finish is very caustic and because it is highly abrasion resistant it is very tough to sand off. Usually for a prefinished refinish ypu can figure about a 50% increase in cost compared to an existing site finished floor
